Site Design Engineer
Lotus Water is seeking a junior- to mid-level design engineer, with 3-5 years of experience, to work in our San Francisco office. Lotus is continuing to grow our Civil Engineering practice by seeking out design projects that have the opportunities and the incentives for integrating sustainable water management design elements such as onsite water reuse and green stormwater infrastructure. Candidates should have a strong technical understanding of the site development process and the ability to manage their own design and CAD tasks. Additionally, candidates should have a good understanding of basic hydrology and water resource analysis, and a strong interest in improving these skills through their work on site development projects of various scales that include forward-thinking water management strategies. Experience working on multidisciplinary design teams (landscape architects/architects/urban designers/planners) is preferred.
In addition to performing civil design tasks, this candidate will work closely with senior staff and be mentored in the areas of hydrology and hydraulic modeling, water resource engineering, onsite non-potable water reuse planning and design, technical writing, and infrastructure master planning. The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following tasks:
Develop technical design documents, including construction document sets for site development projects;
Develop grading, drainage, streetscape and utilities plans;
Perform hydrologic & hydraulic analysis and prepare stormwater control plans;
Set up sheets and manage CAD standards for individual projects;
Coordinate directly with designers from other disciplines (e.g. landscape designers and plumbing engineers) regarding design issues;
Perform water balance analyses;
Create maps and perform spatial analysis;
Attend design meetings and site visits;
Assist clients in acquiring development permits;
Develop green infrastructure design details;
Perform construction administration/inspection.
The ideal candidate will possess demonstrable knowledge and experience producing engineering design documents and possess strong technical skills. We have a flat organizational structure and encourage candidates who work independently with limited supervision to apply; however, candidates should expect senior staff to support and mentor the successful candidate. Strong interpersonal skills are essential within our close and client-focused environment. Qualifications include:
3-5 years working on site development projects
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
Engineer in Training (EIT) certification
Proficient in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel)
Proficient in AutoCAD
Minimum of 1-year experience with Civil3D modeling software
Strong initiative and technical problem-solving expertise
Experience working on LID/green infrastructure and water reuse projects
Master’s degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering (Water Focus)
H&H modeling (e.g., SWMM, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS)
Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite applications
