Ka’u Royal – Water Master Plan
Lotus Water has been contracted to develop the Infrastructure Master Plan for this 1,600-acre site located on a former sugar plantation on the remote southern tip of Hawaii’s big island. This project will restore agriculture to half of the project area while introducing a residential component, hotel & spa, industrial processing facilities, offices, and a visitor’s center to highlight onsite coffee and tea production. The remote location, insufficient municipal infrastructure, and extreme terrain create challenging conditions to service the proposed development with sufficient infrastructure to support the proposed uses. Lotus developed a flexible strategy to maximize available municipal resources in balance with developing onsite resources such as groundwater, springs, rainwater, septic pads, and solar potential. Our staff have conducted strategic spatial and aspect analyses, developed cost estimates, and evaluated different supply options for a range of development alternatives, allowing the client to respond to uncertainty with informed alternatives evaluation.
