Mission Bay Ferry Landing
SAN FRANCISCO, CA
< PROJECTS
The Port of San Francisco is developing a new state-of-the-art ferry facility to enable regional water-based transportation and emergency response to the Mission Bay, Dogpatch, Potrero Hill, Pier 70, and Central Waterfront neighborhoods. The Mission Bay Ferry Landing will sit across the street from the new Chase Center and within a few blocks of the UCSF Mission Bay hospital and campus and the T-Third SF Muni line. The project, consisting of a large overwater ferry terminal, water taxi landing and a landside plaza, will have the capacity to handle up to 6,000 passengers per day which will alleviate current transportation overcrowding and provide resiliency in case the Bay Bridge and/or the BART tunnel are damaged during earthquakes or other unplanned events.
Lotus has led the design and construction documentation of the grading, drainage, and streetscape modification. Working closely with the Landscape Architect, Surfacedesign Inc., Lotus provided a grading plan that carefully addresses accessible requirements, sea level rise, and planned development on all sides of the project. Lotus led the civil design of the future park immediately north of this project, Bayfront Park 22, as well as the preliminary grading and drainage design of the redeveloped Agua Vista Park to the south. Additionally, Lotus collaborated with the Port, SF Public Works, and SFPUC on the relocation and redesign of an overland flow release channel that provides an emergency outlet for neighborhood flood waters during the 100-year storm event.
